Deen al-yusr

So many times in my life I have been told, heard or been around those who preach, “al Deen al Yusr i.e (The Religion is easy).”

Usually, this is the Ayah of the Qur’an that they choose to excuse their sins.

With this mentality, we are kidding ourselves…

I don’t have to wear hijab as the Deen is easy.

Segregation belongs in the 7th century.

I don’t have to grow a beard, it’s just a sunnah.

I know I shouldn’t do this…but Allah is Most Forgiving.

Chatting to the opposite sex is ok, it’s about my intentions.

Different opinions I have heard but all have one thing in common. Shaytan deceiving us…

I’m not saying Islam is not easy. Islam is the reliever of all burdens in this Dunya, it’s the ease of my life and the only thing in the world that asks me for so little and gives me so much back. Alhamdulillah…

I believe in this Ayah just like every other Ayah of the Qur’an…  the problem is that we cannot take just one part of the Qur’an and live our lifes around it…

So how come a large majority of Muslims, young and old, feel restricted by their religion? Let’s be honest, Islam has a reputation of being a stone age & very strict religion… just because it rejects society’s norms. At first glance, it appears there is nothing more to Islam that infinite rules & regulations that are ancient and extreme punishments for not obeying those pointless laws. But to those who understand and those who practice and feel the weight of the world life off their shoulders as they bend down to worship Allah and whisper their problems to Him and ask Him to help us in everything we do, we understand that it’s not Islam that is corrupt… it is us. Our obligations in Islam are slim compared to our infinite Blessing’s and rewards from Allah & furthermore, compared to other religions – Islam does not expect from its followers perfection or solitude or any harmful acts of worship.

Some Christians practice their religion by “getting married to God” – instead of getting married to another human and then bringing up God loving children, they go against their nature and live a life of solitude being “married to God.” Astaghfirullah.

Some Hindu’s spend long amounts of time in silence to punish oneself for their sins, in hope that one of the many God’s they believe in will forgive them.  When you have a job to do, a family to look after and information to spread how is this a religious duty?

Islam is easy in the sense that we are recognised as human meaning that we will make mistakes, surrounded by a life of temptation & challenges – we will definitely sin. But Allah tells us,
“Say: “O My servants who transgress against their souls! Despair not of the Mercy of Allah: for Allah Forgives all sins. For He is most Forgiving, most Merciful.”
Surah 39; Ayah 53 – Holy Qur’an.

Life is too short to spend it doing things that don’t have a real impact. The Deen and your life is not easy by doing haram or ignoring your obligations or living a double life, “Muslim in the heart.” This will lead to a complicated life and many other problems…

Recognise that in fact “Deen al Yusr” when:

The Prophet [ﷺ] said:
❝Regret is repentance and the one who repents is like the one who did not sin.❞

The Prophet [ﷺ] said:
❝How wonderful is the affair of the believer, for all his affairs are good, and that does not apply to anyone except the believer. If something good happens to him, he gives thanks for it and that is good for him; if something bad happens to him, he bears it with patience, and that is good for him.❞

The Prophet [ﷺ] said:
❝Fear Allah wherever you are, follow a bad deed with a good deed to erase it, and treat people with a good attitude.❞

The Prophet [ﷺ] said:
❝If a person falls sick or travels, reward will be recorded for him for that which he used to do when he was at home and was healthy.❞

The Prophet [ﷺ] said:
❝Do not regard any act of kindness as insignificant, even meeting your brother with a cheerful face.❞

All we have to do is open our Qur’an, read about the Prophet Muhammad (Sall Allāhu ʿalay-hi wa-sallam). We need to remind ourselves the point of our existence. Shame on us. Instead of chasing good deeds, we are chasing this world although we know, we know we’re doing the wrong thing…and we still have the audacity to complain. Astaghfirullah.
