Every time we are challenged and we obey Him, we grow.

How do we know if we are being Blessed or Punished? Is it really as black as white as we think it is?

For example, if Allah has given you a new job, so more money coming in, therefore better lifestyle is that an example of a Blessing…?

If you get un-treatable cancer and your world stops is that an example of a Punishment?

If you have an amazing social life and your phone is always ringing – so many people know you and your diary is never empty with occassions, parties and things to do – is Allah Blessing you with companionship?

Similarly, if you are married and you have children, is that another example of a Blessing?

What about if you lose a loved one, you stop breathing, you might even faint from the shock and you don’t know how to live without this person, is that Allah’s Punishment?

The answer is not black and white. It is not as simple as we have allowed our simple society to become. The answer is whatever brings you closer to Allah is a Blessing from Him and whatever distances you from Allah is a Punishment from Him.

A trial which brings you closer to Allāh is better than a blessing which makes you forget Him.

– Sh. Ibn Taymiyyah

whatever you are going through in life, right now just ask yourself, am I getting closer to Allah or distant?

Then you will know your answer: Is it s a Blessing or a Punishment? Look after your relationship with Allah subhanu wa ta’ala, everything else is secondary.

[The people of understanding are those] Who remember Allah while standing or sitting or [lying] on their sides and give thought to the creation of the heavens and the earth, [saying], “Our Lord, You did not create this aimlessly; exalted are You [above such a thing]; then protect us from the punishment of the Fire.
Surah 3; Ayah 191 – Holy Qur’an.

May Allah safeguard us in our homes, in the streets, in the masaajid, anywhere and everywhere. & may Allah expiate our sins with any pain inflicted upon us whether intentional or unintentional – caused by loved ones or enemies or ourselves. May Allah increase us in beautiful patience and resilient trust in His plan. May Allah enable us to only say and do that which pleases Him & may He bless us with the eternal abode in Jannatul Firdous. الهما آمين
