The truth about happiness has already been laid out by the most brilliant minds in history. Everything important has already been said before. Although, saying that, just because we know better doesn’t necessarily mean we will do better.
Happiness deeply depends on how positively you think and act. Scientific research suggests that a person’s happiness levels depend on many factors:
50% is dependent on genetics. Surprisingly, only a mere 10-20% depends on life circumstances such as age, wealth, gender, religious affiliation, ethnicity, marital status, health, occupation, family. And the crucial rest, 30-40%, is dependent on how a person thinks and acts.
We have no control over our genetics, nor our circumstances (nothing happens unless Decreed by Allah) however, we do have control over our thoughts and actions.
If you expect the world to be fair with you because you are fair, you’re fooling yourself. That’s like expecting the lion not to eat you because you didn’t eat him.
It’s our goal in life, all of us want it, whether we are Jewish, Muslim, Christian or otherwise… we all want to be happy. We all want to know the secret of how to be happy. Is it possible to be happy all the time?
A boy said to a man “I want happiness.” The man said “Remove ‘I’ – that is your ego. Remove ‘want’ – that is your desire. And what remains is your happiness.
– Yasmin Mogahed
This life is not perfect and never will be: we do not chase happiness based on our circumstances. You can be in a war torn country with no money or provision, yet still have the faith that Allah will provide for you and in turn spread positivity.
Being positive is not living in dream land as many atheists tend to think.
Whenever I’m going through a test – a difficult time – I ponder that this world wasn’t meant for us to love and find peace and eternal happiness, this world was meant as a Punishment for Adam (ʿalay-hi sallam).
“We will test you in fear, hunger, loss of wealth life and fruit but give glad tidings to the patient.”
Surah 2; Ayah 155 – Holy Qur’an
The Prophet (Sall Allāhu ʿalay-hi wa-sallam) said, “The real Patience is at the first stroke of calamity.”
The easiest level of patience is acknowledging that everything is by the will of Allah, the second level is simply getting by (neither ecstatic nor depressed) somewhere in the middle and the ultimate step of patience is being satisfied and finding solace in the hardships no matter how big.
As long as we turn our worldly worries into prayers, Allah will turn our circumstances into Blessings. Rely on Him for your happiness and you will never have a disappointed day in your life. ‘If you were to rely on Allah as He should be relied on, He would provide for you as He provides for the birds. They go out early in the morning hungry and return in the evening full.’
Be grateful to Him through thick and thin and Allah will give you more khair in sha Allah.
Look after yourself, spiritually, physically and mentally to achieve your full potential. If you haven’t exercised in months, start today. A fresh walk, a 15 minute jog, a catch up with your mum, clear your schedule and look after yourself, you need it.
Keeping your body healthy is an expression of gratitude to Allah.

Did you know the moment negative thoughts enter your mind:
Your body releases acid.
Your aura decreases.
Your resistance power decreases.
Your heart beat increases.
Unwanted hormones are released.
Your blood pressure increases.
Your systems functions are effected.
Do not let negative thoughts, make you have a negative day. If you wake up this morning with more health than illness you are more blessed than the million people who won’t survive this week.
May Allah swt The Al-Alim (The All-Knowing One) Forgive us for our ignorance, Keep us on the Straight Path and Grant us and our families Jannah. Ameen.
