The word love appears in the Qur’an, appears in over 90 places. But interestingly, it doesn’t define the word love, but speaks about the very first consequence of love, commitment.
Islam talks about commitment. If you truly love something, or someone, you commit. If you do not, then your claim of true love is not real at all.
Why is commitment relevant in Islam?
Muslims are being insulted, killed, abused, and mistreated all around the world. Remember the Chapel Hill shooting? Holding onto our religion is like holding onto hot coal.
The world is becoming more “Westernised” and adopting the Secular Democratic ways of the West… i.e practice your religion but in moderation. What does that even mean?
Similarly, Atheists commonly believe there is no God – because of the cruelty, poverty and starvation in the world. Not to mention, they believe religion oppresses women and women are becoming feminists to fight for their rights.
Little do they know, Islam, by fact, is the only religion in the world to consider women equal in humanity and faith with men.
145 years ago (consider mankind has been around for millions of years 145 years ago is really only yesterday), the Parliament of the United Kingdom issues the ‘Married Women’s Property Act” in 1870 finally allowing women to be legal owners of their money and inheritance.
Think about that. Since the beginning of time, till 145 recent years ago it was against the law for a woman to make their own money or inherit.
Over 1400 years ago Allah and His Messenger gave women the right to keep their own money and inheritance.
When a man asked Muhammad alayhi as-salām to whom should he show the best companionship, he replied:
‘Your mother.’ He said, ‘Then who?’ He said, ‘Your mother.’ He said, ‘Then who?’ He said, ‘Your mother.’ He said, ‘Then who?’ He said, ‘Your father.’
I encourage all my Muslim and non Muslim sisters to dream of changing the world. You are capable of such amazing things, so don’t let society hold you back.
Don’t be afraid of everything alien to you, don’t let the propaganda enter your heart and don’t let society rule your life.
